| Installation & Maintenance | |
| Subfloor Requirements for Medes Alufloor® It is critical that sub-floors be absolutely smooth and uniform to prevent the rocking of metal tiles. Sub-floors must be structurally sound, dry (<3.0 lbs/1000 sft. by the calcium chloride test method) and must have a moisture barrier to prevent damage to wood, particle board or plywood panels that may be used under the aluminum tiles; and to prevent damage to adhesives. If wooden panels are used to level the sub-floors, they must be at least 1/4 " to 3/8" gauge and should be primed with a dispersion primer. Alu-floor may also be installed of structurally sound level existing flooring, such a level vinyl flooring, structurally sound VCT, parquet, laminate and finely leveled pavement floor. Seams must be closed (with i.e. feather finish by Ardex ) and there must be no height differences. Grout lines of existing ceramic tiles must be leveled. |
|
NOTE Alufloor® and the building must be conditioned for at least 12 hours before installation (to control thermal expansion / contraction) |
|
| Installation of Alufloor® Use only Alufloor® packages of the same dye-lot in each room. Dye-lot numbers are labeled on each box. The installer should inspect each tile for color uniformity and for any visible defects, such as nicks, damaged edges, etc. There can be no adjustment or credit for tiles with defects once they are installed or cut. Please record and specify dye-lot numbers for future reference. Alu-floor tiles must be installed with Medes expansion strips on each seam in order to prevent the lifting of tiles due to heat expansion, and the noise of tiles knocking against one-another. Pay attention to the direction of the tiles (identified by 2 red lines on the back of tiles). Adhesives:
Measure and mark the tiles. Use either a fret-saw (aluminum cutting blade backside or a circular saw (aluminum-hard metal blade frontside) fur cutting. It is suggested that methylated spirits are used as a cutting lubricant. If oil based cutting lubricant is used, if has to be removed from both surfaces after cutting so that the tiles will adhere to adhesives. Skirting C-60 by Doellken: Medes manufactures inside outside corner pieces and straight length of inserts to fit the Doellken C-60 skirting. Skirting is applied to the wall with Siga Top-Tac and the Medes precut strips are glued into the skirting with Promont dry contact cement in film form. Maintenance of Medes Alufloor® Medes Alufloor® should be cleaned with neutral, non film forming detergent only. Avoid cleaners with oil base or waxing. Chewing gum should be sprayed with ice-spray and knocked off. Scouring Agents, Ajax, metal pads are prohibited as they permanently damage the surface of the Alufloor® products. NOTE Installation instructions and maintenance instructions are subject to change as soon as new knowledge or experiences make changes necessary.
